Hi, everyone! Late last year, my lovely sister Nabeela convinced me to undertake the literal longest, singular task of my life: running the 2022 Chicago Marathon.
When my maternal grandfather passed away in 2018, my sister and I talked about doing things to honor his memory. He supported us in all our goals, and I know he would be excited that we're trying to complete a major life goal for both of us in running a marathon. We decided to run this race for a cause that he would wholeheartedly support.
I'm running to support the mission of the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, which helps provide free medical and humanitarian care for children who have been victims in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This year, the team voted on which initiatives it wants to support, and we collectively decided to raise funds for the Gaza Pediatric Mental Health Initiative.
As we are becoming more aware of the importance of mental health, we can help those that cannot access the medical care that they need. PCRF is helping children in war zones and refugee camps get the therapy and counseling they need to address PTSD, anxiety and other conditions that result from witnessing the violence of this conflict firsthand. I have been incredibly lucky to have access to services during my own mental health crisis and recovery, and I know how much receiving proper care can change life.
I think the last few years have taught me that the world profoundly changes when you help in little ways, so I'm reaching out. I hope this cause speaks to you as much as it does to me! Feel free to share and spread the word, friends.
Yours,
Imtiaz
